Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson has congratulated Indonesia’s Olympic weightlifting champions in a very Australian way – with a steak barbeque.
Ambassador Grigson promised the team a steak dinner following the silver medals awarded to Sri Wahyuni and Eko Yuli Irawan.
The team’s great success in Rio was powered by a diet of premium Australian beef, supplied by Australian producer Elders under a partnership with Indonesian weightlifting organisation Persatuan Angkat Besi, Angkat Berat dan Binaraga Seluruh Indonesia (PABBSI).
The medal wins in Rio add to Indonesia’s Olympic weightlifting medal tally which now stands at ten. Indonesia is emerging as a major force in Olympic weightlifting since winning its first medal in the sport at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
“Indonesia continues to produce some of the best weightlifters in the world and Australia is proud to have been part of their preparation,” Ambassador Grigson said.
“Beef from Australian-bred and Indonesian-fed cattle is a potent source of iron, zinc and protein and helped build the team’s resilience and strength,” he said.
PABBSI Chairman Rosan P. Roeslani said the Australian beef is halal and was a vital ingredient in the team’s Olympic training strategy.
Elders Indonesia President Director, Endro Susilo said, “Indonesians should be very proud of how Sri, Eko and the team performed in Rio and we are pleased to celebrate their success.”
Ambassador Grigson also paid tribute to the Indonesian badminton team who brought home a gold medal from the Rio Olympics. The Australian team was grateful to have trained with their Indonesian counterparts at clinics at Pelatnas PBSI at Cipayung in May this year.
